Dear Sir/Madam,
Hello.
I am writing in relation to a recent article published on OnlineNews.ie titled
“500 Aer Lingus Jobs at Risk: Is It Time for Ireland to Buy Back Its National Airline?”
Given the devastating impact of the reported proposal to cut up to 500 jobs at Aer Lingus and the serious concerns raised in the article, I would ask International Airlines Group (IAG) to provide a clear statement on its intentions for the future of Aer Lingus and its commitment to the Irish market.
Does IAG intend to continue investing in and supporting Ireland’s national airline, or is it considering reducing its presence in Ireland? The scale of these proposed job losses has caused widespread concern and has raised serious questions about the company’s responsibilities to its employees, the Irish aviation sector, and the communities that depend on it. Actions of this nature is causing lasting damage to trust and public confidence in IAG’s role in Ireland.
The overwhelming view expressed by many people I have spoken with since this announcement is that IAG should reconsider its position in Ireland and question whether acquiring Aer Lingus was the right decision in the first place. A company reporting significant profits while simultaneously proposing the loss of hundreds of jobs and causing such uncertainty for employees and communities must seriously reflect on its responsibilities. Many believe that an organisation operating in this manner, without due regard for the impact on its workforce and the wider national interest, should not expect continued public support or acceptance within Ireland.
In particular, I would welcome your views on the proposed job losses, the rationale behind the proposals, and any broader observations you may have on the implications for Aer Lingus and the Irish aviation sector.
Should you wish to provide a statement for publication, I would be pleased to include it in our ongoing coverage of this issue.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Treacy
