Update:
For regular car drivers filling up at forecourts, the May carbon tax rise was never going to change the price. The carbon tax component on petrol and diesel is now fixed at the €71/tonne level until the next scheduled motor fuel increase (which would normally come in October 2026). This is a scam.
Was this a desperate Government’s final act to try and cling to power as the country revolts?
John Dallon “Agreement was made to allow 5 trucks and they sent 20. There is no foul play by the public, the people of Ireland”.

“What happened today in Whitegate to the Irish people of the island of Ireland is a total and utter disgrace.
The police being directed by Micheál Martin to go down with riot gear, pepper spray, and to pull people out, kick them on the ground, spray pepper spray on them is totally, totally disrespectful and unacceptable.
Them people were down having a peaceful protest. Now, I got a phone call uh from Peadar Tóibín to try and negotiate. And there was an agreement made down there that 5 loads at that aisle was to be loaded and allowed out. And 20 lorries arrived down.
So, if you’re making an agreement for five load to be let out, why send 20 lorries down? And that aggrieved the people down there because they had an agreement made for five and they put 20 down, where they should have not done that. And then, true to go on a bit further, did the police decide to go in, pepper spray them, pull them out, and kick them on the ground?
Now, we have it all on social media. The evidence is there. There is no foul play by the public, the people of Ireland. And I want to emphasize on that. There was no foul play by the public.
The foul play was by the Garda Síochána, and it was directed by Micheál Martin, the Taoiseach. Totally unacceptable, totally disrespectful.”
Pepper spray used on protesters who wouldn’t step back.
Large Garda Public Order Unit moved in.
Farmers and drivers were physically dragged from tractors and trucks.
Defence Forces brought the heavy recovery vehicles (“the beasts”) to tow anything in the way.
Tankers were escorted in and out under Garda protection.
Saturday 11 April 2026 – at Whitegate and Galway These scenes are shocking.
Do you know that:
The Irish government is not free to slash fuel taxes as much as it wants because of EU rules, specifically the “Energy Tax Directive”. This sets minimum levels for excise duty on diesel, petrol and other fuels.
Any help for hauliers and farmers must be approved by Brussels. Ministers can’t cut fuel taxes without permission from Ursula von der Leyen, so they’re now writing to her begging for flexibility.
Tánaiste Simon Harris said on RTÉ (11 April 2026) that parts of the planned support package for hauliers and farmers “will have to be agreed with European Union authorities”. There is no mention that we are aware of, of everyone else in the package, who are paying up to 60% to 65% tax per litre.
He specifically mentioned contacts with Europe over flexibility on the Energy Tax Directive, which sets the minimum excise duty Ireland can charge on diesel and petrol.
Does Ireland even have a real government anymore, or just a fake one acting as facilitators for unelected bureaucrats in the EU?
While Michael Martin and some Minister, jet-setted around the world, in the private jet, enjoying a lavish millionaire lifestyle, prioritising foreigners and recklessly handing out taxpayers’ money, they appear to have completely missed the dramatic changes happening in Ireland and the growing unrest among its people.
Has our government quietly handed over, nearly all real power, to run our country to unelected members of the EU Commission? Is there any control left as the EU Migration Pact is about to be signed without a referendum, which could just bring the country to its knees.
Tensions are boiling over.
Irish workers, farmers or businesses, can no longer afford fuel or heating, housing has become almost impossible to get, feeling the country has changed too fast without proper say. Rents have skyrocketed, all without proper consultation or consent from the Irish people. This deep-seated anger and fear for their livelihoods is now widespread and entirely legitimate for a great many citizens.
Getting Our Country Back
Real change is now what is needed: Removing these shocking, political parties out of our government.
Stronger national control, on realistic energy policy, on immigration and housing priorities, that doesn’t punish working people, politicians who listen to voters. Accountability for taxes collected. Stop squandering money to other countries.
Options
Either we get out of the EU altogether, or we overhaul it completely: hand real power back to elected MEPs instead of letting unelected, out-of-control Brussels bureaucrats run the show and decide our future.
There are an estimated 311 million barrels of recoverable oil sitting underneath the Barryroe oil field off the coast of Cork, but the Irish government refuses to allow drilling. Worth €30 Billion.
The Barryroe oil field, located 50km off the coast of Cork, contains an estimated 311 million barrels of recoverable oil (plus significant associated gas), with total oil in place around 1 1.6 billion barrels.
Despite its potential value of roughly €30 billion and the ability to supply Ireland’s entire oil needs for at least 6 years, the Irish government has effectively blocked development.
In 2023, Minister Eamon Ryan refused the necessary drilling license, citing financial concerns about the company. A broader Green-led policy since 2020–2021 bans new oil and gas exploration in Irish waters as part of the Climate Action Plan.
As a result, the project remains stalled, the license has lapsed, and Ireland continues to import 100% of its oil while hauliers, farmers, and ordinary people face rocketing diesel prices and high taxes.
While we import oil this Green Party ideology stopped this essential very valuable resource?
The real question now is whether these protests were merely the preamble for what’s coming next?
